About Us

We help platform teams build better infrastructure. Practical, battle-tested guidance for platform engineers cutting through hype to deliver real results.

Built by practitioners, for practitioners

Our Mission

What We Do

The Pragmatic Platform is where infrastructure practitioners come to learn, implement, and optimize the systems that power modern software delivery. We cut through vendor marketing and framework hype to deliver practical, battle-tested guidance.

How We're Different

No vendor bias. Implementation-focused content. Built by practitioners actively running platforms in production. We prioritize actionable advice over theoretical frameworks.

What We Believe

Our core principles that guide everything we create and recommend.

Platform as Product

Platform engineering isn't just DevOps renamed. It's treating infrastructure as a product, not a service ticket queue.

Invisible When Working

Good platforms disappear. The best infrastructure is invisible to developers until they need it.

Trade-offs Are Real

We don't believe in silver bullets. Every architectural decision comes with costs, and we're honest about them.

Implementation Focus

Implementation matters more than theory. We cover the details that matter when you're building at scale.

Our Four Pillars

Everything we create is organized around these four foundational areas of platform engineering.

Build

Construct platforms that accelerate delivery

Operate

Run platforms that are reliable by design

Optimize

Maximize value from every resource

Secure

Embed security as a platform capability

General FAQ

Common questions about our approach, engagement model, and how we work with organizations.

Engagement Model

How do you typically engage with organizations?

We offer three models:

  • Advisory: Fractional platform engineering leadership for ongoing guidance
  • Project-Based: Fixed-scope engagements for specific outcomes (most services above)
  • Embedded Teams: Our engineers work alongside your teams for capability transfer

Do you require long-term contracts?

No. Most engagements are 4-10 weeks with clear deliverables. We earn ongoing work by delivering value, not through contractual lock-in.

How do you handle knowledge transfer?

Every engagement includes documentation and enablement sessions. For implementation work, we pair with your engineers and progressively hand off ownership. You should be fully self-sufficient at engagement end.

Organizational Fit

What size organization benefits most from these services?

Organizations with 50-1000 engineers typically see the highest ROI. Smaller teams often don't need formal platform engineering; larger enterprises often have internal platform teams but benefit from specialized expertise or capacity injection.

We're early in our cloud journey—is platform engineering premature?

It depends. If you're starting fresh, platform engineering principles from day one prevent technical debt. We offer "Platform Foundation" engagements for earlier-stage organizations that establish good patterns before complexity accumulates.

Our organization is skeptical of consultants—how are you different?

Valid concern. We measure success by your outcomes, not our billable hours. Engagements have defined exit criteria, we transfer knowledge aggressively, and we're happy to share references from organizations that remained self-sufficient after our engagement.

Measurement & Outcomes

How do you measure success?

Every engagement begins with baseline metrics and target outcomes. Examples:

  • • Developer time savings (hours recovered per developer per week)
  • • Deployment frequency and lead time (DORA metrics)
  • • Mean time to detect/resolve (MTTD/MTTR)
  • • Cost savings (absolute $ and % of spend)
  • • Security vulnerability density and remediation time

What if we don't achieve the projected outcomes?

We set realistic targets and share accountability. If we fall short due to factors within our control, we continue working at reduced/no cost until targets are met. We also conduct 30/60/90 day retrospectives to ensure outcomes sustain.

Can you share case studies or references?

Yes—we provide relevant case studies during initial conversations and connect you with references in similar industries or platform maturity stages upon request.
